Surprise…Surprise…Surprise

Posted by CJCM on 18th November 2006

There are two surprises for me today….although it may not be big deals for you out there..they are for me… :)

The first one….remember my post about eBay Explained 2006 where I had met LiewCF and Colbert?

I checked out my Technorati links today and found a new link to my blog from Ashruffz Reality Adventure. Well Ashruff is actually a fan of LiewCF blog and he had been listening to our (me, Liew and Colbert) conversation while we were waiting for the seminar to start. Poor Ashruff…he should have had the courage to meet his favourite blogger and say hi and join us in the conversation. There were a couple of other guys who did just that. All the best to Ashruffz and his adventure.

The second surprise… I have mentioned Wendy Piersall a few times in my posting, and that I am a regular reader of her blog called eMoms At Home. This morning I was there again and guess what? There was no Most Valuable Posts entry which she would normally post every Friday, but I found the Most Valuable Commenters instead. And my name and my blog’s had been mentioned as one of her MVCs. This is an honour really…I really appreciat her for that and to tell you the truth.. I have learnt a great deal from Wendy, not only through her blog but also from her advice which I had sought through email, although not very often. Thanks again Wendy…all the best to you, eMoms At Home.

And it might be worth while for you guys to check out the other MVCs honoured by Wendy as well … :)

eBay Explained 2006

Posted by CJCM on 12th November 2006

I managed to get the confirmation email for the eBay Explained 2006 seminar which was held today at Kuala Lumpur Convention Center, so I was able to attend and get first hand information about ebay.

The seminar was really an eye opener…at least for me. Even though I have heard and read of many succesfull eBay sellers, the seminar actually gives me first hand information from the people behind the highly succesful online auction site itself…and I tell you it was worth the time I had spent there…3.00pm until 6.30pm… it was extended untill 7.00pm. And there were a lot of crowds too.

eBay logoI think I now have a clearer idea of what eBay really is and the potential for me…and you too of course…to make money by selling at eBay….either using their auction features or normal online selling fetures. I must say, one of my next internet projects might well be selling on eBay but this requires some planning an research so it will not take off so soon.

cjcm-colbert-lcfAnd guess who else from the blogosphere attended the seminar? I had expected to see Colbert but I didnt know LiewCF was coming too…so we had some moments for short photo- sesion. Ohh…by the way did you notice our heights? Actually I am not that short…just that Colbert was wearing high-heel and LiewCF’s was even higher…LOL :)

My Personal Computer’s Hard Disks

Posted by CJCM on 14th October 2006

Quantum HarddiskMaxtor Harddisk I have two hard disks in my PC. One is Maxtor 40GB hard disk while the other one is an older Quantum 20GB hard disk. Both of them had just been re-formatted, again, due to..what else….if not virus. Damn virus…never fails to make me waste considerable amount of times just hunting for them.

I will be spending my weekend re-installing and configuring everything on my PC. The tasks are not particularly hard for me but the sheer amount of time it takes to get it done is just unbelievable. I hope everything will be back to normal by Monday.

Have you ever had to reinstall your system for whatever reason?

Problogger’s Group Writing Project

Posted by CJCM on 25th September 2006

I had commented on one of the posting, The Business Boxing Match:: Success vs. Failure by Wendy Piersall, the author of eMoms at Home blog. The blog is one of my favourite blogs that I frequently read. On top of that I am also a reguar visitor to ProBlogger authored by Darren Rowse. Both blogs are listed in my Blogroll.

Instead of replying to my comment in her blog, Wendy had the courtesy of personally thanking me via the email and at the same time asked whether I had participated in the ProBlogger group writing project that week. I didnt know about the project so I quickly went to over ProBlogger and found out more about the group writng project.

I made an instant decision to join and spend the next hour writing on How To Accept Mistakes and Dont Blame Others.

I had so much fun being part of the project, got to know a few other bloggers as a results of that and very happy with the publicity generated by just writing an article and submit it to the project.

Wendy…thank you for your email. I will definitely join the future group writing project run by ProBlogger.

For those who doesnt know about the project, you can read about it here.

I also list all the submissions here….all 343 submissions….great job Darren. Enjoy….

How To Accept Mistakes and Dont Blame Others

Posted by CJCM on 20th September 2006

Everyone makes mistakes. Mistakes done by us can be caused by us ourselves or by third parties. Often times, we are easily led by our own self esteem and self defence to blame others around us for the mistakes we have committed.

In general, the thought of we are responsible for our own mistakes cannot be comprehended by most of us. This is normal for majority of human being, after all who wants to be blamed for any mistake, regardless of whether it is our or someone else’s mistakes?

However, having someone to blame for our mistakes does not solve the problem by itself and more often than not, it would only create more problem especially in the relationship with that person or everyone else around us.

The only solution to this is to find way for us to accept sole responsibility for our mistakes, learn from the incident, forgive ourselves and get on with lives, without severing any relationship you may already have with any third party. But how to achieve this?

As an example, let say you did not achieve something you want to have, because, from your analysis, someone else had done something he or she shouldnt have done in the first place. Instead of blaming he or she for that, you perform a root cause analysis trying to find the cause of your failure. Sure enough you will get to the point where that someone was the cause of the whole mistake. However, don’t just stop there. Go back one step further and try to think what you could have done to avoid that person from committing his mistakes causing you to lose your goal. Once you find all the possibilities of what you could have done to avoid that person’s mistakes, now you have someone else to blame….yourself…for not doing what you could have done.

You may ask whats the point if we blame ourselves for any mistakes we go through? There are many advantages of accepting mistakes, blame ourselves for it and get on with our lives.

1. Blaming ourselves for our failures avoids possible relationship-related problems with the third party which could only creates more problem making you prone to commit more mistakes.
2. We can train ourselves at finding the root-causes of every problem causing our mistakes, evaluate every possible actions we could have done, thereby presenting ourselves a chance to avoid similar problems in the future.
3. It is easier to forgive ourselves than to forgive others.

I can go on and on and on to list down all the advantages of blaming ourselves but I hope the three reasons above would give you some hints of what I am driving at.

So whatever bad things happen to you, always find out what you could have done to avoid it, blame yourselves for not doing it, forgive yourselves, and get on with lives.

I hope you enjoy this posting, and if you did not it was not your fault, I could have done much better by many other means but I didn’t, so this is my mistake. I will try better in my other posting.

My first time in Australia

Posted by CJCM on 16th August 2006

I have been posting quite a few entries about my ventures into blogging and article directory, but I have never forgotten to continue writing about the journey that brought me into IT.

So finally in 1984 I set my foot in Melbourne for the very first time. A group of Malaysian students already studying in Melbourne and a couple of Malaysian Student Department’s (MSD) officers were at the airport to meet us. We were taken to Melbourne University’s hostel just outside Melbourne where we spend the next few days while the seniors were busy assisting the MSD officers finalizing the accomodations for all of us.

Everyone was so excited with the new environment and all of us were really looking forward to start the academic term at our respective schools. We took the opportunity of the idle time we had at the hostel to explore the City of Melbourne, by tram of course.
To me, Melbourne is truely a nice city to live in. Known as the Garden City, Melbourne city’s landscapes are full of greens. The rivers are clean. The people were friendly and polite. To learn more about Melbourne, please click here.

I was finally informed that I would be going to McKinnon High School, now known as McKinnon Secondary College, and would be staying in an apartment somewhere in Carnegie. I was to share the two bedroom apartment with three other flat mates, Hamid, Hannan, and Razak, and all of us went to the same school.

My schooling at McKinnon was not really the best thing in my life, or something I could spend hours talking about it. If you asked me what was the most memorable moment, I’d probably say none. It was just a plain sailing..period. To tell the truth, I wasnt doing that well in my HSC, where I managed to score just ordinary pass, enough to get me a place in a college to study….guess what…Engineering.

I will dwell more about my college life in my future posting.

Any of you studied in Australia or Melbourne specifically? Share with us your experience in Australia. Or if you have travelled Downunder for whatever reason, please share your moments with us.

Have a good day mate…
